The Difference between Xeomin and Botox

botoxIn this day and age you have most likely heard all about Botox, or perhaps even tried it yourself. But are you familiar with Xeomin? These two injectable neuromodulators are slightly different, but similar enough to have users feeling a bit baffled. Both of them offer the same results, they just use a slightly different path to get there.

Botulinum Toxin A

Botox, made by Allergan, and Xeomin, by Merz, are both injections that temporarily freeze the muscles that cause wrinkles by altering the nerve impulses of those muscles. They both use Botulinum Toxin A, the toxin responsible for blocking nerve impulses of the targeted muscles.

Professionally done injections only affect the targeted areas and do not “freeze” other parts of the face, as many stereotypes may suggest.

Purposes

Most men and women who choose Botox or Xeomin want to get rid of the horizontal lines across the forehead, perpendicular frown lines between the brows, and crow’s feet around the eyes.

Sincepeople who receive Botox or Xeomin contract wrinkled areas less, the wrinkles eventually reverse themselves and the skin smoothes itself out.

What’s the Difference?

It’s not a difference that can be recognized by the naked eye, but Xeomin is considered to be “naked”; in other words, made without any of the carrier proteins found in Botox. This doesn’t make it better or worse than Botox, but just simply more appropriate in certain situations. In theory, the absence of protein carriers results in fewer allergic reactions for those with sensitivities. However, millions of people use Botox with perfect results regardless of the carrier proteins, so it’s all up to personal preference!

The other difference is that Xeomin does not need to be refrigerated, whereas Botox must be delivered in dry ice and then stored in cool temperatures. Since Xeomin is cheaper to ship and more convenient to transport, it is often more affordable for patients.

Whichever one you choose, you will lose those pesky wrinkles and enjoy a younger-looking you every time you glance in the mirror!
