DENTURES

What Are Dentures?

Simply put, dentures are removable replacement teeth. While dentures can take some getting used to, they are a comfortable and natural looking solution to tooth loss. There are two main types of dentures— Full dentures and partial dentures. At Smile St. Pete Dentistry, we offer both! Our dentures are custom-made in a local dental laboratory right here in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Full Dentures

Full dentures are ideal for individuals missing most of their teeth. When opting for full dentures, you will receive a custom-made, removable dental appliance that mimics the look of your natural smile. This appliance is made from a flesh-colored material that rests on the gums, secured by dental adhesive. Your dentures will fit comfortably and securely, resulting in a smile that is both functional and beautiful!

Over time dentures will need to be relined, remade, or rebased due to normal wear. Our face shifts naturally as we age, resulting in loose, less effective dentures down the line. For patients with full dentures, Dr. Lowry suggests checking in at least once a year to ensure appliance functionality in addition to general health and wellness.

Partial Dentures

Similar to full dentures, partial dentures are designed to resolve spaces from missing teeth. These dentures are ideal for patients who still have the majority of their teeth, which can be used as a base for partial dentures. Partial dentures mimic the appearance of your natural smile by filling any gaps with prosthetic teeth. These prosthetic teeth are held in place by the neighboring natural teeth, as long as they are strong and in good shape. Similar to full dentures, partial dentures should be removed at night before going to bed, and soaked in denture cleansing fluid overnight. Like our other appliances, our dentures are custom-made in a local dental laboratory right here in St. Petersburg, Florida!
